Terms of Use

HoneyContainer is published by Jeff McNeely as an individual.

• You must be at least 18 years old or the age of legal majority where you live.
• If you use HoneyContainer for an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.
• You may not download or use HoneyContainer where doing so would violate applicable law, sanctions, or export controls.

HoneyContainer is proprietary and closed source. Subject to these Terms, you receive a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-sublicensable, and non-transferable license to run the unmodified application on Apple Silicon Macs you own or control.

• Personal and commercial use are permitted.
• You or your business may install HoneyContainer on multiple Macs you own or control and keep one archival backup.
• Redistribution, resale, rental, sublicensing, third-party hosting, modification, and derivative works require written permission.
• Reverse engineering, decompilation, and disassembly are prohibited except where applicable law does not allow that restriction.
• Honest benchmarking and reviews are permitted, but you may not imply endorsement or disclose unlawfully obtained information.

The current release is free, with no subscription, license fee, in-app purchase, or paid support. There is no promise that future releases, features, support, or downloads will remain free or available.

The publisher may add, change, suspend, withdraw, or discontinue any feature, runtime integration, release, download, or support channel at any time. No update schedule, compatibility promise, maintenance obligation, or continued-development commitment is made.

• Install, license, configure, update, and secure macOS, Apple Container, Docker, AWS tools, registries, terminals, and every other third-party product you use.
• Review every image, Dockerfile, command, argument, mount, environment value, credential, profile, role, registry, file, volume, network, machine, and workload.
• Obtain authorization for every computer, account, file, image, registry, network, AWS resource, and other system you access.
• Maintain backups, use least privilege, secure credentials, monitor workloads, and verify destructive operations.
• Pay all taxes, cloud charges, registry charges, data-transfer charges, license fees, and other costs caused by your use.
• Comply with all laws, regulations, court orders, contracts, licenses, privacy requirements, intellectual-property rights, export controls, sanctions, and industry rules.

The publisher has no duty to inspect, approve, validate, monitor, back up, or recover your commands, workloads, data, or credentials.

You may not use HoneyContainer for an illegal, unauthorized, fraudulent, abusive, infringing, deceptive, or harmful purpose.

• Prohibited activity includes unauthorized system access, malware, credential theft, phishing, denial of service, privacy invasion, unlawful surveillance, sanctions evasion, illegal export, infringement, and unauthorized cryptocurrency mining.
• You may not bypass security controls, access systems without permission, interfere with third-party services, impersonate another person, or falsely claim affiliation with HoneyContainer, Apple, Docker, or AWS.
• The software's technical ability to perform an action does not mean the action is authorized.

Prohibited conduct falls outside this license. You are solely responsible for that conduct and its consequences.

• HoneyContainer performs powerful operations with your user access and installed runtimes. Docker-socket access can provide control comparable to direct use of the Docker daemon.
• Privileged containers, mounts, volumes, builds, imports, exports, restores, and commands can expose, overwrite, corrupt, or delete host and container data.
• HoneyContainer does not determine whether an image, command, Dockerfile, registry, mount, or environment value is safe, lawful, trustworthy, or suitable.
• Runtime contexts, rootless behavior, drivers, credentials, TLS, image behavior, and remote connectivity remain controlled by the selected runtime and third parties.

If you enable AWS features, HoneyContainer may read and edit your shared AWS configuration, create or save profiles, assume IAM roles, and proxy credentials to containers. Back up and review your AWS configuration first.

You are solely responsible for AWS accounts, profiles, permissions, credentials, sessions, costs, and container activity. HoneyContainer does not promise correct configuration, least privilege, credential rotation, availability, or security. AWS terms, pricing, policies, and privacy practices apply independently.

Apple Container, Docker, macOS, AWS, registries, images, terminal applications, and open-source dependencies are independent third-party products. Their terms, licenses, privacy policies, security practices, charges, and restrictions apply separately.

HoneyContainer is not endorsed, sponsored, certified, or warranted by Apple Inc., Docker, Inc., Amazon Web Services, or any registry provider. The publisher is not responsible for third-party content, security, availability, changes, incompatibilities, data loss, or charges.

The publisher owns HoneyContainer, its compiled application, name, artwork, website, and documentation, excluding third-party materials. No ownership rights transfer to you.

By submitting feedback, you grant the publisher a perpetual, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free, transferable, and sublicensable license to use and incorporate it without payment or attribution. Feedback is not confidential. Do not submit secrets, credentials, personal data, private keys, regulated information, proprietary code, or anything you lack authority to disclose.

Feedback becomes a ticket in the private HoneyContainer GitHub repository and remains there until edited or deleted. Local data and network behavior are described in the Privacy Policy.

HoneyContainer currently targets Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 26.0 or later. Apple Container 1.0 and 1.1 and Docker 29.6.1 are compatibility references, not guarantees that every feature or patch version works.

The publisher has no obligation to provide updates, security fixes, maintenance, documentation, troubleshooting, support, or a response within any period. Any assistance is a best-effort courtesy and does not create a warranty or continuing obligation.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the publisher and any contributors, licensors, or service providers from claims, losses, liabilities, penalties, costs, and reasonable legal fees arising from your use or misuse, workloads, commands, content, credentials, illegal or unauthorized conduct, violation of these Terms or law, infringement, or disputes with third parties.

The publisher may control the defense and settlement. You may not settle in a way that admits fault by or imposes obligations on the publisher without written consent.

You may terminate these Terms by stopping use and deleting all copies. Your license terminates automatically if you violate these Terms. After termination, stop using HoneyContainer and delete all copies you control.

The publisher may update these Terms by posting a revised version with a new effective date. Continued use after the new effective date constitutes acceptance where permitted by law. If you reject a revision, stop using and delete HoneyContainer.

Ownership, feedback rights, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnification, and provisions intended by their nature to survive will remain effective after termination.

You may not download, export, reexport, transfer, release, or use HoneyContainer in violation of export controls or sanctions. You represent that you are not a prohibited party and are not in a destination where distribution or use would be unlawful.

HoneyContainer does not include encryption that the publisher classifies as export-controlled encryption. You remain responsible for classifying, licensing, screening, and lawfully handling your own software, images, technology, data, credentials, and workloads.

• If a provision is unenforceable, it will be modified to the minimum extent necessary and the remainder will continue.
• Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
• You may not assign these Terms without written consent.
• The publisher may assign them with a reorganization, transfer of HoneyContainer, or sale of substantially all related assets.
• These Terms, the Privacy Policy, the Security Policy, and incorporated third-party notices form the entire agreement concerning HoneyContainer. English is the controlling language.
